Waterman was founded in NEW YORK in 1884 by LEWIS WATERMAN (1837-1901); his first ink reservoir penholder was produced under the name The Ideal Pen Company1. In 1888, it was renamed L. E. Waterman Company. It was its founder who succeeded in actively marketing the reservoir fountain pen on American soil, a process invented in 1827 by Petrache Poenaru. There were many modifications to the mechanism over the following decades. Waterman christened its first classic model, The Regular. After multiple adventures, change of owners and hundreds of creations WATERMAN now belongs to the Newell Rubbermaid group. For more details see: waterman.com
