Description

A sterling silver combination pen holder, mechanical pencil, and letter scale. This set consists of a hollow cylinder containing, on one side, a pen holder and a mechanical pencil, which can be alternately extended by means of two sliding rings. Each ring allows either the pen holder or the mechanical pencil to be extended. The central section unscrews to reveal a letter scale that unfolds, allowing a letter to be hung for weighing. A scale of 20g and 40g is indicated by the spring slider. The flared end of this object could be engraved, thus serving to make an impression on a hot wax seal. This particular seal is not engraved. Four functions in one tool. An exceptional object from the late 19th century. Length when closed: 113 mm, barrel diameter: 7 mm.
