Antique letter opener in galalith and brass. Galalith ("milk stone," from the Ancient Greek gála, "milk," and líthos, "stone") is a thermosetting polymer derived from casein and, along with hard rubber, one of the first plastics used for making writing instruments in the early 20th century. Sculpted with an Egyptian motif. French manufacture, early 20th century. In good condition. Length: 128 mm.
